The Story of Your Personalised Celtic Cross…
This is a piece I cherish deeply in my heart. It all started in a quiet corner of County Galway, where an old Irish Ash tree once stood. Born in circa 1930s, it was rooted in tradition, and a witness to generations of history — while soaking up the spirit of the land.
A few years ago, after a storm, I found it fallen… and something about it felt sacred — as if it still had a story to tell.
When a customer requested something truly special, that same tree became the heartwood of a new creation. I set out to craft something personal, intricate, and steeped in Gaelic heritage — a handcrafted Celtic cross, that would honour their Irish surname and ancestry.
I’ve always been inspired by the stunning craftsmanship of medieval manuscripts like the Book of Kells. I knew that this local Galway Ash would be perfect for this piece, a tree deeply rooted in Irish folklore and tradition.
Not only is this piece unique, but it also carries the history of Ireland within its grain. As each surname is engraved in the traditional Seanchló (old Gaelic) font, I’m reminded of the generations before us who carried these names with pride.
One particular customer shared a touching story — his grandparents emigrated from Ireland to America, bringing their faith and traditions with them. Now, he gifts this cross to his family as a way to reconnect with their Irish roots, a lasting tribute to their lineage.

Studying Furniture Design & Manufacture at GMIT Letterfrack completely changed my life. I discovered a passion for working with my hands, and for creating truly unique pieces. When I work with wood, I feel connected to the material — and to nature itself.
I founded Magill Woodcraft Ireland in 2016, during my second year of college. Since then, I’ve continued to learn, and constantly aim for the highest quality craftsmanship.
Along with conserving our enchanting Irish culture, my mission is to exceed customers’ expectations — by crafting some of the most heartfelt and beautiful wooden gifts in Ireland.
