The Story of Your Handmade Ireland Map with Surname Engraved…
This piece began as a request from someone looking to honour their father’s Irish heritage – a gift that felt personal, rooted, and full of meaning. Inspired by that, I created a map that not only marks a place, but also carries a name, a story, and a legacy.
Over time, I’ve seen this map gifted to families tracing their ancestry, to people remembering home, and to loved ones across the sea. Each one is different – the names change, the locations vary, but the emotion behind them stays the same.
As I work with each piece, I’m reminded of the old Irish Seanfhocal;
“An áit a bhfuil do chroí, is ann a thabharfas do chosa thú.”
Where your heart is, your feet will bring you.
For me, it also speaks to something deeper – that when we honour the names and places of those who came before us, we carry a piece of their spirit with us. That’s what this map is about, a celebration of where you come from, engraved in Irish wood, and crafted to be cherished for a lifetime.

Cian Magill is ainm dom, and here’s a little bit about my journey…
Studying Furniture Design & Manufacture at GMIT Letterfrack completely changed my life. I discovered a passion for working with my hands, and creating totally unique pieces. When I work with wood I feel truly connected to the material, and at one with nature.
I began to develop Magill Woodcraft Ireland in 2016, my second year of college. Since then I have continued to learn, and constantly aim for the highest quality craftsmanship.
Along with conserving our enchanting Irish culture, my mission is to exceed customers’ expectations, by crafting some of the most heartfelt & beautiful wooden gifts in Ireland.
